Hello, I’m Keondra Hernandez, a versatile individual with a variety of roles. I’m a proud mother, daughter, sister, teacher, birth doula, and a Black Woman. My passion lies in serving my community, and I take pride in it.

For the past six years, I’ve been working as a special education teacher for the Fresno Unified School District. My students, a mix of 9th-12th graders, inspire me to keep pushing forward and give me hope that we can make the world a more inclusive place. My work is incredibly fulfilling, and I’m deeply committed to it.

Aside from teaching, I also serve as the Head Coach for a high school girls’ volleyball and softball teams. Additionally, I work as an Administrative Assistant with ExpresArte Cultural Wellness Collective (ECWC), where I’m involved in social justice work through social media campaigns and supporting the BIPOC Homegrown Therapist Fellowship. ECWC’s mission is to make mental health care more accessible and less hostile to marginalized communities in rural areas of Central California.

Recently, I’ve decided to explore other avenues within my field of work and social justice. I’ve accepted a calling to work in the Reproductive Justice field as a Birth Doula. As a lifelong learner, I’m excited to develop my skills as a doula and social justice warrior. As a Black mother of three children and a previous foster mother, I understand the importance of being heard. As a doula, I use my knowledge and experience to provide emotional and physical support during labor and delivery to families with children who have experienced trauma issues. My career experience has allowed me to understand the unique needs of families in this situation, making it an easy decision for me to pursue this new path.
